Baltimore Golf Courses
Clifton Park Golf Course
2701 St. Lo Dr., Baltimore MD 21213; Tel. 410.243.3500
The oldest golf course in the Baltimore city area, Clifton was opened in 1913. This Baltimore golf course is a unique golfing experience, as its locale in the city center of Baltimore lends to a more 'urban' game. Pedestrian traffic across the fairways is not uncommon. While considered a value at $15, it's not advised to end your round after sunset, as the likelihood of your car remaining in the parking lot decreases with the fading daylight.
Greystone Golf Course
2115 White Hall Rd., White Hall MD 21161; Tel. 410.887.1945
Also fairly new, this Joe Lee designed course opened in 1997. Offering six tee placements, this Baltimore golf course provides a challenge for every level of golfer. From the tips, it measures 6,925 yards. The course is exquisitely maintained, considered exemplary of the finest in Baltimore area courses. Greystone is only a 30 minute drive from downtown Baltimore. Green fees run from $39 to $64.
Longview Golf Course
1 Cardigan Rd., Timonium MD 21093; Tel. 410.887.7735
This quirky little track (about 12 miles outside of Baltimore) is known for its excellent conditions, and near perfectly manicured greens, but the low handicapper may find it not much of a challenge. This Baltimore area golf course perfect for beginners, youth and seniors. The course gained notoriety in the eighties when a clan of golf ball-collecting foxes was discovered in the nearby woods with over 1,000 balls gathered in their den. The course measures just over 6,000 yards, and will cost between $8-$20.
Mount Pleasant Golf Club
6001 Hillen Rd., Baltimore MD 21239; Tel. 410.254.5100
Designed by legendary golf course designer Gus Hook, this older Baltimore golf course opened for play in 1933. It's a classic design, and in the 1960s played host to several PGA tour events. Compared to courses such as Bethpage in New York, and considered a great hidden gem by local golfers. Mount Pleasant golf course is only $20 to play.
Rocky Point Golf Course
1935 Back River Neck Rd., Essex MD 21221; Tel. 410.887.0215
This Balitmore golf course course claims to play longer than its 6,750 yard measurement, probably due to the tight fairways and hazard placements designed by architect Russell Roberts. Several holes offer views of Chesapeake Bay. Less than ten miles outside of Baltimore, Rocky Point costs $15-$20 to play.
The Woodlands Golf Course - Baltimore-Maryland.com Editor's Pick
2309 Ridge Rd., Baltimore MD 21244; Tel. 410.887.1349
Opened in 1998, The Woodlands is Baltimore's newest course. The Woodlands Golf Course plays host to the Champions Tour Master Card event. Designed by Lindsay Ervin, this Baltimore golf course features dramatic elevation changes and narrow, birch-lined fairways. The greens draw comparison to Augusta National in form, not quite speed. Fees are in the $30-$50 range.
